'Beyond The Pale Blue Dot' Cheba Solo Show at It's All 2 Much Gallery - Stokes Croft, Bristol
'Beyond The Pale Blue Dot' a solo show from Bristol artist Cheba.
Opening preview Friday 7th November 7-10pm
@ It's All 2 Much Gallery - 124 Cheltenham Rd, Stokes Croft, Bristol.
'Beyond the Pale Blue Dot' presents Cheba's first major show in 4 years, a series of mixed media works presenting the artist's journey into abstraction and futuristic spray can expressionism. His recent work has evolved into vibrant and abstract fluid formations, a new and refreshing direction for the artist although influences of the bold character led work that he is well known for can still be found.
The show features a series of 3D paintings using a complex process of poured resin. Cheba has created his own unique technique working with various mediums building up layer upon layer of resin to create multidimensional Nebula inspired paintings. Heavily influenced by Space, starscapes and the very elements that create us, Beyond the Pale Blue Dot focuses on the past, present and future of our existence. The work evokes mixed emotions of both hope and fear; the frightening thought of being alone in our universe or that there is something else out there are equally daunting but viewers will also find hope in the work, a homage to the beauty that surrounds us.
Cheba began painting the Bristol landscape in the early 00’s, soon after picking up a spray can Cheba was hooked and has been a long-standing figure in his hometown of Bristol’s thriving street art culture. Showcasing his work at over 40 exhibitions across the World (4 Solo) alongside illustrious figures from the world of street art including the ‘Crimes of Passion’ show at the Royal West Academy of Arts and more recently The House of Commons, London and Art Fairs in New York.
Cheba has donated many works but most notably he was selected for two charitable fundraising public art exhibitions, Gromit Unleashed and Wow Gorillas, alongside household names such as Sir Quentin Blake, Peter Brookes & Peter Blake. At auction Cheba’s sculptures raised £28,000 and £10,000 respectively, among the highest selling at both auctions.
Opening preview Friday 7th November 7-10pm.
Show runs until Sunday 7th December.

The Austrian urban art and graffiti illustrator Nychos was born in 1982 in Styria, Austria where he grew up in a hunting family. Getting confronted by the anatomy of dead animals at an early age and being an 80’s kid with an interest for cartoons and heavy metal ended up being some of the ingredients which inspired him when he started graffiti and painting at the age of 18. Over the years he developed a distinctive style which stands out - his dissections and cross sections of human and animal bodies are easily recognised. The focus and reinterpretation of dissected motives in a combination of colourful outlines can be seen as his branding.
“Uniting the comic character with how a body actually works is really interesting to me”. (Nychos)
He is well known for his huge and technically outstanding art pieces in the urban environment as well as several gallery exhibitions. In 2013 he had solo shows in Detroit (Inner State Gallery), New York (Mighty Tanaka) and Turin (Galo Art Gallery), besides traveling the world, painting in over 15 different cities and participating in Art Basel Miami Beach, Pow Wow Hawaii and many other events. He’s currently seen as one of the most soughtafter artists of the street art scene. In 2014 three solo shows in San Francisco (Fifty24SF), Singapore (Mighty Jaxx) and Paris (Open Space) are planned amongst a set of festivals, events, conferences and fairs.
Nychos is also part of international graffiti and urban illustration crews like “The Lords”, “The Weird Crew” and “The Jukebox Cowboys”.
Upcoming print 'Goya & His Dog' by Will Barras from Edition Fifty
'Goya & His Dog' by Will Barras. Available 15:00 (BST) Thursday 17th July 2014 from www.editionfifty.com
Will Barras is an artist, illustrator and animation director living and working in London. He grew up in Birmingham and moved to Bristol to study graphic design.
Will became one of a new crop of young artists working within Bristol's world renowned street art scene. This led to Will appearing in 'Scrawl' the book, and becoming a founding member of the Scrawl collective. 'Scrawl' originally published in 1999 was a seminal book documenting a new movement in street art, graphics and illustration. He was chosen as one of the original artists for the collective, noted for his representations of fluid movement, unique narrative driven composition and line work. This has led Will to travel extensively, Live painting and exhibiting his paintings in Asia, throughout Europe and the U.S.
Will continues to Paint and Travel, following a gruelling schedule and continually evolving his style and technique. When Will isn't travelling and painting, he continues to take on commercial art projects which interest him, and Direct animated commercials.
Mike added
"We are really excited to be working alongside one of the UK's most renowned and beloved street artists. Will is considered by his contemporary's as one of the most influential and respected artists of his generation and a pioneer of modern day street art."
About the print from the artist
"This painting is inspired by 'The Dog' by Goya, a painting he did on the wall of his house towards the end of his life.
It's a mysterious painting. The dogs head is very small at the bottom of the composition almost completely enveloped by a large dark mass.
Some people think the dog is drowning or half buried, representing mans futile struggle against forces beyond his control.
But maybe he was just asking his owner to take him out for a walk, so here is Goya taking his dog for a walk." - Will Barras

Cheo Bio
The mutant love child of the hip hop and skate scenes, Cheo was raised in Kingswood, Bristol, on a high-carb diet of The Beano and Nutty comics, and subsequently Vaughan Bode's twisted underground cartoon strips.
Obsessed with 'drawling' since early sproghood, he hit adolescence just in time to be consumed by the arrival of hip hop from the US in the early 80s. After a brief spell spinning on his back and arse for shillings at the local shopping centre, graffiti fired up the young b-boy's imagination enough to lead him to the shady heights of the notorious Barton Hill Youth Club in 1987. Here he found a deranged community of like-minded bodkins painting the walls, doors and floors of the club - and everything else within a five-mile radius, for that matter.
Cheo became a veteran of various drawing competitions (including one in Nutty Comic, and another on kids TV show Get Fresh) and one national graffiti championship, which he won alongside local legend Deed in 1987. Then, in 1989 Cheo hit the big time, coming second at the Bridlington World Graffiti Championships alongside local wild style prodigy Inkie. Soon after, however, the creeping evil that was the emerging rave scene all but snuffed-out UK hip hop's young-flame, and along with the shock of being busted for his (ahem) nocturnal artistic endeavours, Cheo was driven into extended hibernation.
Gleaning sustenance from video games and Japanese Manga, Cheo's talent slept like Rip Van Winkle for many a year, until the revitalised, shiny graffiti scene tempted him out of his cave for a second bite of the cake. Now older yet equally immature, Cheo has found the world just about ready for his odd and colourful scribblings.

Sebastian Clark is a print designer from London fashion label Cyberdog who has been developing his digital painting style for the last 3 years. This show will be a chance to see the body of work he has produced whilst living in Bristol.
Sebastian's style has a bright and cartoon-like quality, heavily inspired by American culture and literature, such as Steinbeck and Bukowski. His images focus on movement and composition, incorporating characters from novels and conceptualizing the story lines behind them. His paintings express concepts that illustrate ideas for both character, fashion and interior design. He works in various media such as pencil, digital painting and illustrator vector.
He is exhibiting paintings made from 2012-2014 with a variety of work including concept artwork for the ongoing project: "Domino Girls", a group of rogue army girls fighting to put the 'F' back into in Fashion! Expect to see robots, girls and robot girls!

Puma Trinomic
AW13 sees the return of the OG PUMA Trinomic XT1 & XT2 Plus Series. The re-issue is an exact replica of the 90's original - material for material, colour for colour. The PUMA XT+ Series didn't come back from the running dead to be quiet...
PUMA's launch event celebrated this cult classic re-release with a multi-sensory exhibition, created in an abandoned bunker in London. Showcasing the revolution that is PUMA's Trinomic technology, the exhibition detailed the history of the shoe with adverts taken from the PUMA archive, stacks upon stacks of the trade-mark PUMA green box complimented by luminous green lighting to reference the colour-pops on the shoe and sound projections from various designers, taste-makers and fans of the Trinomic XT+ Series for added impact.
The exhibition then followed on to a rooftop park where over 200 guests were treated to performances by DJ's Oli D.A.B & Robin, DJ Abstract & Shy FX (with a special appearance by Ms Dynamite!), with plenty of 90′s inspired drinks, snacks and gifts to keep the crowd well and truly hyped!
The PUMA Trinomic XT2 Plus is NOW AVAILABLE in Footpatrol, Hanon, End, Size?, PUMA Twentyone at BOXPARK & Cooshti in Bristol.
